Why you should become a Sunamp certified installer

As more specifiers and installers seek Future Homes Standard-compliant solutions, Thermino heat batteries offer a proven and scalable route to cutting emissions while maximising usable space in homes.

Thermino heat batteries are an ideal alternative to a hot water cylinder – they’re up to 4 times smaller than the equivalent cylinder, with lower heat losses, and compatible with a range of energy sources including heat pumps and solar. Becoming a Sunamp certified installer can help installers get ahead of the competition and use this world-leading technology to provide instant, high flow rate hot water for customers. Not only that, they’re easy to fit with minimum pipework and low annual maintenance.

As demand rises for smart, space-saving thermal storage in new builds and retrofits, there has never been a better time to join the Sunamp installer community.

Make the most of the move to low carbon heat

The majority of homes in the UK have a gas combi boiler, which can provide heating and hot water without the need for a separate hot water cylinder. However, the tide is changing; with heat pump technology needed in up to 80% of homes by 2050 to meet net zero targets, the need for hot water storage is imminent.

In 2024 alone, over 220,000 heat pumps were installed in the UK, and this number is expected to double by 2026, supported by grants under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

To meet the growing demand for heat pumps, many more heat pump installers will be needed. Installers do face some challenges when looking to upskill, including the upfront cost of training and MCS certification, and the loss of potential earnings when completing training.

New regional initiatives in England, Scotland, and Wales are addressing this by offering location-specific grants and faster routes to certification.

There are government incentives to help with this though, such as the UK Government’s Heat Training Grant which offers heating engineers £500 towards becoming a qualified heat pump installer and the Scottish Government’s MCS Certification Fund which covers 75% of an installer’s first year of certification fees.

As heat pumps don’t provide hot water, a separate hot water system is needed. And the size of the hot water storage system can be a major barrier in installing renewable technology like heat pumps in most compact UK homes. It pays for installers to also be trained on sustainable, space-saving solutions such as Thermino thermal storage systems.

Choose a compact, easy to fit hot water solution

For installers completing heat pump training and looking for a complementary hot water system, or those looking to capitalise on the move towards low carbon heat without making the leap to installing heat pumps, there are many benefits of becoming a Sunamp certified installer.

Thermino batteries are quicker to install than a traditional hot water cylinder, with no need for ongoing maintenance. Their compact size frees up valuable storage space for customers and makes it possible to fit a heat pump even when there’s no room for a cylinder. With 30,000 systems already installed and demand growing, joining Sunamp’s network of certified installers is a smart move if you are looking into decarbonisation of heating and hot water in private homes, commercial properties and social housing.

Existing certified installers speak highly of the efficiency of the systems, the ease of installation, and the service they’ve experienced from Sunamp. Allen H wrote on Trustpilot, “The build quality & reliability have always been excellent. Supply, delivery & aftercare have always been excellent too. Sunamp are my preferred heat battery supplier.”

Andy Robinson of Envirowarm also shared his experience, “What a great product the Sunamp is! We have been really impressed with the energy savings our customers have been able to achieve with it. The size of the unit makes it even easier to fit into a small space and it’s really simple to install.”

Paris Ellinas from Paris Plumbing said: “I’ve been working along side Sunamp now for a few years as an engineer/installer. It’s a great product and a game changer in the plumbing industry. Our customers have loved the simplicity and performance compared to previous gravity systems. As a company, they support installers too, so I’ve been confident in tackling complex installations. Highly recommended as a customer and installer!”

Upskill with free training

No mandatory qualifications are needed to install Thermino heat batteries, but free training is available for installers looking to become Sunamp certified, which can set you apart. Our free online training is designed to help installers gain the practical knowledge and confidence to specify and install our products correctly.

The training course is split into two 2.5-hour modules, and is led by expert trainers with practical experience.

You’ll learn:

  • What makes Thermino heat battery different from traditional hot water cylinders

  • How Plentigrade – our patented phase change material – enables compact, high-performance thermal storage

  • Components, specifications and operation as well as mechanical and electrical installation guidance across Thermino models

  • Key considerations for specifying, commissioning and fault finding

The training is delivered online every month and is ideal for installers, specifiers, plumbers, building service engineers and facilities managers.

Get featured on the certified installer map

Being visible on the certified installer map not only builds trust with homeowners but also makes you discoverable for commercial opportunities in social housing and retrofit programmes.

Sunamp’s certified installer map makes it easier for customers to find and contact an installer in their area. Once an installer has completed the free training, their first installation will be assessed by Sunamp’s technical team to make sure there are no issues.

After this assessment, installers can benefit from promotion through a free listing on Sunamp’s certified installer map, along with a merchandise pack and marketing materials to help promote their business and easily explain the benefits of Sunamp systems to customers.

Support is available throughout the process – Sunamp’s technical team are on hand for troubleshooting, and there are installation instructions and technical manuals available in the installer hub.

Becoming a certified installer now puts you ahead of the curve as building regulations tighten and consumers look for trusted professionals who can deliver smarter, sustainable hot water systems.
